Hoakon/Helga is an accessories line blending vintage and recycled materials with newer components. Founded by Canadian designer Andi, Hoakon/Helga creates an eco friendly, and unique silhouette of bags, and jewelry. Named after the designers Norwegian grandparents, the line strives to achieve a respect for the past and future using sustainable approaches.

Andi is experienced in textile design with a Fine Arts Degree majoring in Textiles. The ability to learn fabric manipulation processes in a fine arts setting allowed her to develop a unique perspective with designing handbags. She is experienced with screen-printing, hand-dyeing using natural and chemical dyes, weaving, felting, papermaking, and fabric collage. Through the need to make use of all these materials being created, Andi began designing handbags in her second year of college and has continued ever since.

In developing her current collection, Andi hunts for vintage leather jackets to incorporate into her bag designs. Though the bag silhouettes are similar, each one takes on its own set of visual characteristics due to the nature of the initial recycled vintage jacket. Each one is different in color, shape and pocket design. The result is a bag that each owner can call one-of-a-kind.

Chic styles along with patterns and unusual details are the foundation of each bag. Hoakon/Helga has provided a range of handbags that women will find easy to wear for every type of occasion. These bags allow women to stand out from the crowd and walk their own path.

Each bag is handmade in Andi’s studio in Alberta, Canada.
